The Embassy

July 18, 2008

While working as an ATM ‘Ambassador’ probably doesn’t qualify for travel abroad, I’m going to bend the rules on this one and blog about my work at the “embassy” (aka bank). Basically my job was much like that of a real Ambassador: They help people of different cultures and countries work together-I helped people who didn’t know ATM’s existed discover brand new technology. I thought I would spend a lot of time going over the new features of the ATM, but instead I spent a lot of time realizing more people than I expected refuse to use or understand the ATM.

Part 1:

Day One at Work

On day one of work and I learned some really interesting things:
1.People look wary when you try to hand them flyers-even though you are smiling in a friendly manner.
2.People are more concerned about why a young woman is standing in a vestibule all day than about the new ATM features she is trying to tell them about
3.People think ATM’s are inconvenient, I’m still not sure why.
4.I can’t bring myself to say “have a great weekend” instead of “have a great day” I guess maybe I don’t want to intrude into stranger’s lives on a long term basis. I don’t want to be presumptuous because I don’t know what kind of plans people have for the weekend so I don’t want to get involved.

One Response to “The Embassy”

I really love these new ATMs. They’ve finally made it up north, and they’re so convenient! I haven’t seen any ambassadors for them though . . .
